Face fit testing is required by law to prevent from the inhalation of deadly asbestos fibres.

At Armco we offer Face Fit Testing Training so each participant can suitably test and fit their employees. The course demonstrates the proper use of half masks and RPE’s (respiratory protection equipment), working with non licensed asbestos. Training can take place at out office in Bury, Manchester or at a location suitable to yourselves. 

According to the control of asbestos regulations 2006, Face fit testing is required by law in any role in which you are wearing a mask or any respiratory protective equipment, to protect you against inhaling asbestos or dangerous fibres.

Face Fit Testing ensures that harmful asbestos fibres are not inhaled when coming into contact with asbestos containing materials (ACM’S). Asbestos fibres, if inhaled, can be deadly causing cancer and asbestos related disease such as Mesothelioma which kills around 5000 per year.

The COSHH Approved Code of Practice states the RPE (respiratory protective equipment) must fit the individual adequately, the mask can not leak or it will not offer necessary protection. The mask needs to be tight and correctly fitted to the individual wearer; our Face Fit Testing Training ensures this.

Employers must ensure that whoever carries out the Face Fit Testing is qualified; this Face Fit Testing Training provides that competence. Here at Armco we have over 15 years of experience in performing Face Fit Testing and Face Fit Testing Training, and have tested for over 1000 individuals in the last 3 years.

Face fit re-testing is advised to check that the face piece remains suitable. The testing should be repeated if;

• The wearer gains or loses weight changing their face shape or undergoes any substantial dental work.
• If they develop any facial scars or moles which could affect the fit of their previous mask.
• If the wearer needs to wear a different make, size and model or REP, the fit is only safe for each particular face piece tested.
